| England injury crisis deepens ![]() Trescothick's place at the top of the order is crucial Opening batsman Marcus Trescothick was forced to leave the field on the second day of the two-day match against Western Australia with a shoulder injury. The team management said he would need a pain-killing injection before the end of the day. "The injury does not affect his batting, only his fielding," a spokesman for the England team said. "The injury had been troubling Trescothick for a while." He insisted the Somerset left-hander would be fit for the three-day match starting in Perth on Monday. Vaughan, Flintoff, Gough out Trescothick's opening partner, Michael Vaughan, sidelined with a knee injury, is a definite non-starter for Monday's game. All-rounder Andrew Flintoff and fast bowler Darren Gough are also out of action. Flintoff has flown to Adelaide for intensive treatment aimed at helping him to recover from a hernia operation. Gough is still undergoing rehabilitation after severe knee surgery, and is thought likely to miss the opening Test in Brisbane on 7 November. Fast bowler Simon Jones is also far from 100% with a side injury. |
