Indian captain Sourav Ganguly insists his side can still do well at the World Cup despite losing their last two one-day series.

Ganguly was speaking after a six-wicket defeat by New Zealand in Hamilton, which brought a disappointing tour to an end.

The poor form of their batsmen was the chief cause of India's 5-2 defeat in the one-day series.

They had previously lost 4-3 to West Indies on home soil

But Ganguly said: "We've got to forget the bad times we've had in this series and look forward.

"I'm convinced we'll have a good World Cup despite what's happened here. You have bad times, which means you look forward even more to the bad times."

Despite New Zealand's victory, opposite number Stephen Fleming was far from satisfied with the standard of the pitches the two sides have played on during the series.

Their batsmen also struggled on surfaces which offered plenty of assistance for the seamers.

"I think it's fair to say the wickets throughout the summer have been below par - it's as simple as that," said Fleming.

"You starts questioning your belief on the sort of poor surfaces we have experienced."

Fleming is bullish about his team's chances in South Africa, and even hinted that he believes they can win the World Cup.

"We've beaten a very good side in tough conditions and there's no reason why we can't play even better in better conditions.

"I'll probably be criticised somewhere tomorrow for saying it, but I believe in these guys and that's what's going to win us the World Cup.

"I'd be glad if other people came along for the ride."
