Once again, their seam bowling attack proved too much for the tourists, despite Habibul Bashar's 51, which features some fine boundaries through the covers off Allan Donald and Makhaya Ntini. South African captain Shaun Pollock failed to take the new ball for only the second time in 170 matches for South Africa. But he still picked up four for 24, including his 100th wicket since he took over the captaincy. Three other Bangladesh batsmen got into the 20s, including Sanwar, but they were unable to push on and help their country bat out the full 50 overs of the innings. Martin van Jaarsveld, making only his second one-day appearance for South Africa, was given an unexpected chance with the ball and clean bowled Talha Jubair with his first delivery to bring the innings to a close. Herschelle Gibbs' run of big scores came to an end as South Africa began their reply when he was bowled by Tapash Baisya for 15. Jubair added the wicket of Graeme Smith for 21 and also dismissed van Jarrsveld, but not before the latter had impressed with 42 off 33 balls, including nine boundaries. His exit left South Africa on 103 for three but Jonty Rhodes (30) and Ashwell Prince (14) completed the formalities in business-like fashion as they cruised home in the 26th over. South Africa: S M Pollock (capt), M V Boucher (wkt), G C Smith, H H Gibbs, S Elworthy, J N Rhodes, A G Prince, R J Peterson, M van Jaarsveld, M Ntini, A A Donald Bangladesh: Khaled Mashud (capt/wkt), Anwar Hossain, Javed Omar, Rafiqul Islam, Tushar Imran, Sanwar Hossain, Alok Kapali, Khaled Mahmud, Tapash Baisya, Habibul Bashar, Talha Jubair. |
