Samuels returned to action in the recent Red Stripe Bowl competition following a knee operation in February that forced him out of series against Pakistan, India and New Zealand. He made his Test debut in Australia as a 19-year-old two years ago and is seen as one of Caribbean cricket's brightest prospects. Fast bowler Jermaine Lawson toured Sri Lanka last year, where he played two one-day internationals, and earned a Test opportunity by helping Jamaica reach the Bowl final, which they lost to Barbados. The only other uncapped player in the squad is another Jamaican, off-spinner Gareth Breese. West Indies will play Tests at Bombay, Madras and Calcutta, as well as seven limited-overs internationals. In nine previous tours of India, they have only lost once, in 1978-79. They will again be captained by Carl Hooper, who led the team to a 2-1 win over India in a home series earlier this year. | See also: 09 Sep 02 | Cricket 09 Sep 02 | Cricket Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Cricket stories now: Links to more Cricket stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
