West Indies recall Samuels
Marlon Samuels
Marlon Samuels underwent surgery in February
Marlon Samuels has been recalled to the West Indies squad for the tour of India which starts next month.

Samuels returned to action in the recent Red Stripe Bowl competition following a knee operation in February that forced him out of series against Pakistan, India and New Zealand.

He made his Test debut in Australia as a 19-year-old two years ago and is seen as one of Caribbean cricket's brightest prospects.

Fast bowler Jermaine Lawson toured Sri Lanka last year, where he played two one-day internationals, and earned a Test opportunity by helping Jamaica reach the Bowl final, which they lost to Barbados.

The only other uncapped player in the squad is another Jamaican, off-spinner Gareth Breese.

West Indies will play Tests at Bombay, Madras and Calcutta, as well as seven limited-overs internationals. In nine previous tours of India, they have only lost once, in 1978-79.

They will again be captained by Carl Hooper, who led the team to a 2-1 win over India in a home series earlier this year.

West Indies squad: Carl Hooper (captain), Gareth Breese, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Pedro Collins, Cameron Cuffy, Mervyn Dillon, Chris Gayle, Ryan Hinds, Wavell Hinds, Ridley Jacobs, Brian Lara, Jermaine Lawson, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Darren Powell, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan.
