| Wednesday, 28 August, 2002, 16:31 GMT 17:31 UK PCB makes peace with Youhana ![]() Pakistan's cricket chief has played down differences with Yousuf Youhana, who was sent home from Kenya for disciplinary reasons. "The whole incident was a bit overblown," Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Tauqir Zia said in a statement after a meeting with the batsman in Lahore. Reports had claimed that an inebriated Youhanna had a verbal confrontation with captain Waqar Younis and coach Mudassar Nazar. But the batsman explained that he had only disobeyed Waqar's order that he train in the nets because of a shoulder injury. "I want to perform for my country to the best of my ability," Youhana said in the PCB statement. "I have utmost respect and regard not just for the Pakistan captain but all seniors as well. "I regret any unintentional offense that I may have cause." Youhana, a 28 on Tuesday, played in all four of Pakistan's matches in the recent Morocco Cup, scoring 80 in one match, against Sri Lanka. No replacement will be called to Kenya and batsman Misbah-ul Haq looks likely to gain extra time in the line-up. Zia added that, although Youhana would not go back to Nairobi now, he would be considered for future events. Pakistan's next date is the ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka next month. The team play Kenya in the first match of this tournament on Thursday before facing Australia on Friday. |
