He entranced tennis fans when in 1985, aged just 17, he became the youngest ever player to lift the famous shield at the All England Club. The German became a tennis legend, taking the Wimbledon title twice more. His career haul of 49 titles included two Australian Open crowns and one US Open success. His former adversaries Pat Cash and John McEnroe are certain to give Boris a warm welcome to the commentary box. Not that there was any danger of Becker not enjoying another visit to Wimbledon. Always popular among the fans at SW19, Becker admits he has always felt at home in London. And he is certain to fill the role of expert analysis with relish. "It made me mad to be criticised by commentators with big bellies, who never hit a tennis ball in their lives. From that respect it's much more credible if you're a former champion," he says. |
