Hewitt safely through
Australia's Lleyton Hewitt
Hewitt has been well supported at Wimbledon

Lleyton Hewitt booked his place in the Wimbledon quarter-finals with a straight sets victory over Russia's Mikhail Youzhny.

The world number one and Wimbledon favourite has yet to drop a set in this year's tournament and again looked in ominous form.

I'm not even thinking of the semi-final at the minute
Lleyton Hewitt

The Australian ran out a 6-3 6-3 7-5 winner in front of a packed Centre Court crowd.

He broke his opponent's first service game of the match and raced through the opening two sets with few problems.

But the 20-year-old Youzhny showed some flashes of brilliance and made a fight of the third set.

Hewitt was forced to save three break points and the set looked to be heading for a tie-break.

But the number one seed broke the Russian's serve in the 12th game of the set to complete the win.

"It's a great feeling so far but the job is not done yet," Hewitt said. "Hopefully there's three matches left.

"I feel pretty good out there [on Centre Court], I've really enjoyed them putting me out there."

Hewitt is set for a semi-final against Britain's Tim Henman, but he will have to get past Sjeng Schalken of the Netherlands first.

"He's a tough player, plays well on all surfaces and he's going to be out there trying to take full advantage," Hewitt said of his quarter-final opponent.

"I'm not even thinking of the semi-final at the minute."

Argentina's David Nalbandian
Nalbandian upset Wayne Arthurs in the fourth round

Schalken, the number 18 seed, made it through to the last eight with a 6-2 7-5 7-5 victory over Jan Vacek of the Czech Republic.

Argentina's David Nalbandian upset big-serving Australian Wayne Arthurs to earn a place in the quarter-finals.

The 28th seed was a 6-4 7-6 (7/4) 2-6 7-6 (9/7) winner out on court 18.

In the opening set the 20-year-old became the first player to break Arthurs' serve at this year's tournament.

Arthurs lost despite serving 35 aces and being broken only once on serve.

Nalbandian, playing his first Wimbledon, is only the second Argentine to reach the quarter-finals of the men's draw.

Guillermo Villas, a losing quarter-finalist in 1975 and 1976, was the other.

Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador, who had never made it past the second round before, secured a place in the quarter-finals by beating Arnaud Clement of France.

The 22nd seed twice came from behind to win in five sets 3-6 7-5 2-6 7-5 6-3.

Lapentti will face Nalbandian in the last eight, guaranteeing a South American in the semi-finals of the men's singles.
