Andy Roddick and Andre Agassi remain on course for a showdown in the US Open after both moved smoothly into the last 16 on Sunday. The pair are the favourites with the New York crowd and, as they are on opposite sides of the draw, could meet in what would be a "dream final" for the host nation.
Roddick thrashed Brazilian Flavio Saretta 6-1 6-3 6-3 Saretta and will face Belgian Xavier Malisse in round four.
"Confidence has a lot to do with it," said Roddick. "A lot of things are going right for me at the start."
Top seed Agassi had no trouble completing his rain-delayed clash with Yevgeny Kafelnikov, coming through 6-3 7-6 6-4 to set up a meeting with fellow American Taylor Dent.
Agassi resumed against 28th seed Kafelnikov leading by a set and 1-0 and immediately broke the Russian's serve to level.
The pair swapped further breaks before heading into a tie-break, which saw Agassi find his very best form to race through 7-4.
"I think a lot of things went well," said Agassi. "I was able to break right away, got back into that set and got my teeth into the match.
"I managed to sneak out that second-set tie-break and then I was off to the races.
"It was a tough day yesterday for both me and the Y-man."
