Greg Rusedski has made a big impact on the official US Open website - he and Paradorn Srichaphan were made Players of the Day after their epic second-round clash. Only trouble is, the US Open daily bulletin sheet gave the award to David Rusedski - whoever he is...
It is deja vu all over again - Lleyton Hewitt beats James Blake in five sets, just as he did 12 months ago. Which makes us wonder whether Andy Roddick will breeze into the last 16 by beating Alex Corretja in straight sets, just as he did last year. In 2001 Roddick was 18th seed and Corretja number 11 - this time it is the American at 11 and the Spaniard at 18. Spooky or what? Roddick might not be recognised as he strolls Lexington Avenue - as I pointed out a couple of days ago - but he will forever remain in the heart of an anonymous eight-year-old fan. The little boy became trapped in the scrum for the player's autograph after he had ousted Raemon Sluiter and the quick-thinking Roddick came to his rescue.
He leaned over and helped the youngster on to court where he duly presented him with a racquet. And how is this for a love match? Minneapolis natives Mr Corey Ehlen and Ms Jamie Pease had been thrown together by their tennis-playing parents five years ago. Romance blossomed to the extent that after the Andre Agassi-Ramon Delgado match, Ehlen fell to one knee and proposed. They have set a date for the wedding - 12 June, 2004, the seventh anniversary of their first date. All this rain has enabled the BBC team to hone its golfing skills. Well, a computer version of crazy golf is keeping us occupied - par is 48 for 18 holes. World Service reporter Barry Millns tops the leaderboard with an outrageous round of 24 which included 12 holes-in-one. He is firm favourite to lift the Computer Geek Cup - which may prove the only trophy presented this fortnight if the rain does not abate. |
