Gamewatch: Clijsters v Martinez
Second seed Kim Clijsters beats former finalist Conchita Martinez in the quarter-finals of the French Open.

Final score: Clijsters 6-2 6-1 Martinez

Second set

Clijsters 6-1 Martinez
Careless play from Clijsters gives her opponent a glimmer of hope with a break point. But the second seed shuts the door and moves into the semi-finals on her second match point.

Clijsters 5-1 Martinez
Marinez appears to have run out of ideas and her overuse of the drop shot is increasingly getting her into trouble. A forlorn backhand leaves Clijsters a game away from the semis.

Clijsters 4-1 Martinez
Clijsters delivers a second straight comfortable service game as Martinez continues to struggle with her groundstrokes.

Clijsters 3-1 Martinez
Neither player is on top of her game but Clijsters gets her reward for being the more aggressive of the two. Martinez makes a string of errors off the ground and a forehand winner finally gives Clijsters the break.

Clijsters 2-1 Martinez
After Martinez's struggles in the previous game, Clijsters responds well by holding serve to love and piling the pressure back on her opponent.

Clijsters 1-1 Martinez
A forlorn-looking Martinez delivers two straight double faults to begin the game and she soon faces three break points. Clijsters cannot take advantage of those, plus a further opportunity, and though she also needs four chances, Martinez finally holds.

Clijsters 1-0 Martinez
Clijsters delivers the first ace of the match but she dumps a backhand in the net to face two break points. The second seed sees off the danger with some accurate groundstrokes of both wings and a delicate drop shot keeps her in command.

First set

Clijsters 6-2 Martinez
Clijsters allows her focus to slip and finds herself 40-0 down but she rediscovers her intensity to peg Martinez back to deuce. The Belgian's retrieving skills bring her a first set point and she takes it with a sizzling forehand winner.

Clijsters 5-2 Martinez
Clijsters' length of shot is beginning to trouble Martinez and a sweet forehand down the line consolidates the break.

Clijsters 4-2 Martinez
Martinez attempts an audacious drop shot at 15-30 which fails to come off. Amazingly she attempts another one at break point, which also falls short, and Clijsters regains the advantage.

Clijsters 3-2 Martinez
Clijsters loses her concentration and quickly falls to 0-30, before facing another break point. Martinez breaks back with a forehand winner.

Clijsters 3-1 Martinez
Martinez delivers a first double fault, and Clijsters pounces on the opening with a series of punishing returns. The Spaniard goes wide with a forehand on break point.

Clijsters 2-1 Martinez
Clijsters holds for the first time but Martinez is causing the second seed plenty of problems. The Belgian's serve is firing though and gets her out of trouble.

Clijsters 1-1 Martinez
Martinez engages Clijsters in some lengthy rallies and the Belgian struggles to contain her natural attacking instinct on occasions. But a deft drop shot gives her break point and she levels with a sweet backhand.

Clijsters 0-1 Martinez
After a brief delay for rain, Clijsters wins the toss and elects to serve. The second seed makes an erratic start, allowing her opponent to recover to deuce from 40-15, and Martinez grabs her chance to break.
