Agassi marches on
Andre Agassi
Men's round-up

Second seed Andre Agassi beat Flavio Saretta in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals of the French Open.

Agassi, who is the highest-ranked player left in the draw after the Lleyton Hewitt's defeat on Saturday, was a 6-2 6-1 7-5 winner over the unseeded Brazilian.

The 33-year-old romped through the first two sets and although Saretta did put up some late resistance, it merely delayed the inevitable as the 1999 champion eased into the next round.

Also in the last eight is Dutchman Martin Verkerk, who upset 11th seed Rainer Schuettler in straight sets.

Verkerk, who is playing in the tournament for the first time, took just over two hours to register a 6-3 6-3 7-5 win over the German.

The 24-year-old, who is the first Dutchman to reach the quarter-finals at the French Open since Richard Krajicek seven years ago, showed no nerves on his first match on the centre court at Roland Garros.

He thumped winner after winner past Schuettler, who reached the final of the Australian Open earlier this season, and sealed victory with his 22nd ace.

Verkerk will now face 1998 champion and fourth seed Carlos Moya, who beat 13th seed Jiri Novak 7-5 6-3 6-2.

Seventh seed Guillermo Coria was leading fellow Argentine Mariano Zabaleta by two sets to one when play was suspended due to bad light.

Three-time champion and 15th seed Gustavo Kuerten finished off his delayed third round match, beating Argentine 21st seed Gaston Gaudio.

The Brazilian had been two sets up when bad light stopped play on Saturday but returned to complete a 7-6 (7/1) 7-5 5-7 6-3.

Kuerten will face Spain's Tommy Robredo, conqueror of world number one Lleyton Hewitt, in the fourth round.
