Morgan has already enjoyed Orange Bowl sucess as an under-14 |
British junior number two George Morgan has won the prestigious Orange Bowl title in Key Biscayne, Florida. The 17-year-old from Bolton, who won the under-14 title in 2007, beat 12th seed Jannick Lupescu of the Netherlands 6-2 6-3 in Sunday's under-18 final. Most of the sport's great players have competed at the Orange Bowl in the past, including Roger Federer, John McEnroe, Justine Henin and Steffi Graf. British number one Andy Murray won the under-12 title in 1999. "It feels really good," Morgan told the LTA website. "I thought I played really well all the way through. My goal before the tournament was to reach the quarter-finals so I'm pleased with my achievement. | 606: DEBATE |
"It was probably the best I've ever played in a tournament. I really liked the courts, they suited my game and I was confident going in. "My goal for 2010 was maybe top 30 (in the ITF junior rankings) by the end of the year and now I'm about 15, so I think I've done really well. "It gives me a lot of confidence going into 2010. I'm going to Australia in January and hopefully I'll play as well as I did."
