The Murray brothers had beaten Marc Lopez and David Marrero in the semi-finals
Andy Murray and Jamie Murray clinched their first ATP Tour doubles title with a hard-fought win at the Valencia Open. The British brothers beat third seeds Mahesh Bhupathi of India and Max Mirnyi of Belarus 7-6 (8/6) 5-7 10-7. The win came four days after Andy Murray's shock second-round defeat by Juan Monaco in the singles at a tournament he won last year. "We beat one of the best teams in the world so that's great for me and for Jamie," said Andy after the victory. "It's amazing. Very few people can say they managed to [win with a relative]. "It's one of the best wins of my career and hopefully Jamie can push on from here." | 606: DEBATE |
Andy was best man at Jamie's wedding last week and the elder Murray brother said the victory capped a great week for him. "It certainly made it worth it," said Jamie. "We had a great time all week. We don't get the chance so often any more and it was fun to be on the court with him and we put in some great matches all week." The Murray brothers had previously reached finals in Bangkok and Valencia.
