Britain's Laura Robson dropped just three games against Anna Karolina Schmiedlova as she advanced to the second round of the junior US Open. The 16-year-old, who lost in the final round of qualifying for the senior competition, easily beat her Slovakian opponent 6-2 6-1 on Court 14. Robson will play either Petra Rohanova or Chanelle Van Nguyen in the last 32. George Morgan advanced into the next round of the boy's singles following a three-set win over Roberto Quiroz. The 17-year-old from Bolton ousted the 15th seed from Ecuador in two hours and 19 minutes. Compatriot Robson had no such trouble in her match, although she momentarily lost her composure when a giant bug crawled on to court. However, the eighth seed asked for the insect to be removed and continued her domination, revealing afterwards she had experimented with tactics during the match. "My game plan going into the match was, instead of trying to win 6-0 6-0, I should try to work on things that are going to be important in the future, like coming into the net more and mixing up my serve," she said. "I think I did that really well." Robson missed out on a place in the senior competition when she lost to Spain's Nuria Llagostera Vives in the final round of qualifying for Flushing Meadows at the end of August. However, the Melbourne-born left-hander believes there are aspects of her game she needs to improve before quitting the junior scene. "I'm not 100% yet," she said. "I think any matches are beneficial, I don't have that many tournaments I can play in seniors so I'm just trying to get as many matches as I can and I think juniors are a good way to do that."
