Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner raced to victory in the men's doubles final by beating Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau 6-1 7-5 7-5. The first set took just 19 minutes and although the second was tighter, a break in the 12th game put the unseeded pair in total control. The 16th seeds fought back from 4-1 down in the final set to 4-4. But Melzer and Petzschner broke again in the 12th to secure victory in an hour and 57 minutes. It was a first Grand Slam title of any kind for the scratch duo, who only teamed up together for the first time earlier this year. They won their first title in Zagreb and Wimbledon was only their seventh tournament as a pair. Petzschner, who took Rafael Nadal to five sets in the men's singles on Centre Court last Saturday, was delighted to have had success in the same arena exactly a week later. "We had a really good start and played incredible tennis in the first set and were the much better team in the second set," he said. "We played one of our best matches out there today." At the end of the match the 26-year-old scooped up two tennis balls and explained: "I had said that if we won the tournament I would take the ball we took match point with home with me and put it on my wall. "Jurgen asked "what about me?" so I took two balls - one for him and one for me." Asked if they would continue as a doubles pair, Petzschner said: "We get along pretty well and the two of us are friends outside the court. We are staying in the same house here and are good friends so as long as the friendship stays we will play together." Melzer said: "We are two good tennis players who have proved in the past we can play doubles. It was just a matter of how we would get together. We played great from the first round here and had a tough match in the semis but still played good doubles for two weeks."
