Guernsey's Heather Watson will play on at Wimbledon despite an injury problem.

During her three-set Ladies singles defeat to Italy's Romina Oprandi, it emerged that Watson was suffering with a slight abdominal tear.

She will play in the doubles with fellow Brit Jocelyn Rae. Watson's father Ian said it was down to her enthusiasm for the tournament.

He said she was going against advice by playing but did not want to miss Wimbledon or let her partner down.

Mr Watson said: "She'll be with the physio for about two hours before the match and she'll have her abdomen strapped up. It restricts the movement so the tear can't get any bigger."

Heather Watson gave no clue to her injury in interviews after Tuesday's singles game, but was focused on the doubles.

She said: "We'll work really well together in doubles. It's great when you get on so well with your doubles partner because you have to be relaxed and having fun to do well in doubles. It can't be too serious because then you can't relax and just play tennis."

The British pair face Australians Casey Dellacqua and Alicia Molik third on court six on Wednesday, with the first match on court at midday.
