Former world number one Justine Henin beat fifth seed Elena Dementieva for the second time since coming out of retirement as she progressed in Miami.

Henin repeated her victory over the Russian at the Australian Open as she swept to a 6-3 6-2 win in the second round of the Sony Ericsson Open.

Fellow Belgian Kim Clijsters, seeded 14th, beat Petra Kvitova 6-1 6-1.

Second seed Caroline Wozniacki, fourth seed Victoria Azarenka and seventh seed Jelena Jankovic also made it through.

Wozniacki had the toughest time as she battled back to see off qualifier Tsvetana Pironkova 3-6 6-3 6-4.

Azarenka defeated Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania 6-3 6-2 in one hour and 12 minutes, and Jankovic beat Mariya Koryttseva 6-4 6-0.

606: DEBATE

The day was heavily affected by rain, with a delay of over two hours followed by another of 50 minutes.

Henin was delighted to get back to winning ways after a surprise early exit last time out in Indian Wells.

"It was not as hard as it was in Australia, but I was happy with the way I played tonight. I wanted this victory a lot," she said.

"I was aggressive, went to the net, took my chances. To beat top-10 players again gives me confidence.

"Indian Wells was difficult and I worked very hard since then, so this is a good win. It'll help me the rest of the tournament."
