By Mark Ashenden

2300: On the magical stroke of 11 before I turn into a pumpkin I shall bid you farewell. Magical work with all your comments and thoughts. Don't go missing any of the Muzza action tomorrow afternoon. Really needs a win to secure progression. BBC Two and Radio Five live will be across everything and of course here on the website. I'll be back in the hotseat on Saturday. Super. Night.

2257: So that was exhausting. A simply stunning game of tennis. That second set had enough tennis to fill three sets. As my fingers slowly cool down, I'll chuck you tomorrow's action. Murray v Verdasco on BBC Two from 1415 GMT. Both players will be gagging for the win. And then it's Roger Federer v Juan Martin Del Potro. All to play for in group A. So farewell to Nadal. Shame but what an effort and show from Davydenko. Brilliant.

2252: Davydenko will be up against Soderling on Friday but he looks hot. He says: "I know so many guys of you were supporting Nadal - I'm sorry about this one! I tried to play my best tennis and I showed in the first set my best tennis. Nadal always fights and he started to play better. It was tough."

Nadal 1-6 6-7 (4-7) Davydenko
Davy pulls out a double-handed backhand and gives Nadal no chance. He's a break up and then a double fault. This set has more twists and turns than a bag of spaghetti. Nadal breaks back twice. 2-1 up with two serves. Interesting. Very. One break lost with a shot hitting the tape and spooning (is that a valid tennis word?) long of the court. Still interesting. And everybody's on their feet after one of the best rallies I've ever seen. It lasted about 3 minutes and both players giving everything. For all of Nadal's weaknesses in the first set, he's done brilliantly to get back into this, regardless of what happens now. Davy's turn to edge ahead with a break. Another twisty turn. Davy goes 5-3 up after one more dazzling rally. This is breath-taking. Nadal needs to give it one more fight. Two actually. He needs this set. Hold on - hear me out. This latest rally just beats the last one I was on about. Where this energy is coming from I do not know, but Davy ends it all by dumping one into the net. Davy 5-4 up. Nadal sends one long but even I was challenging that one. Correct. And it's two match points. And a booming winner hands him the match. A slow start but a stunning second set. Just stunning. Nadal is OUT.

Nadal* 1-6 6-6 Davydenko
First point to the Russian and the crowd are screaming out all sorts of things to get Rafa back into this. They don't want to get on the London tube just yet. At 15-15 a challenged line call on a wide serve goes in Nadal's favour. And Nadal goes 30-15 after smashing a ball down like someone who actually wanted the ball to do bury itself down through the court's surface and come out in Madrid. There is hope. A whipped forehand with his face looking in desperate pain and he gets it back to 6-6. Amazing. The crowd are delighted. Tie-break.

Nadal 1-6 5-6 Davydenko*
And there was me getting excited about an amazing comeback. He's 0-30 down but then two fabulous smashes from Nadal. But ooooof - before I know it, I don't even have time to look for where my teacup's gone, and Davy's got two break points. A stunning rally and Nadal plonks the ball into the net. Davy will now be serving for the match and Nadal's demise in London this week. Any hope still?

BBC Sport's Caroline Cheese Tweeting from the O2 Arena: "Dramatic momentum shift here. Ni-Dav suddenly looks all over the place, and Nadal's forehand firing."

Nadal* 1-6 5-5 Davydenko
Nadal fighting for everything like his life depended on it and it pays off with Davy smashing into the net after a very cheeky lob. Mistakes sneaking into the Russian's game. More bottom lip action from Nadal as Davy edges 30-15 up. Great net play from Davy and it's taken the wind out of Nadal's glowing sails. For now. Into the net from Davy and big screams from the crowd. Davy scrapes home though. More nervy times. remember - Nadal needs this set or he'll be chomping into his tapas within 24 hours. Do all Spaniards eat tapas? Who wouldn't eat tapas? Greatest food known to man.

Nadal 1-6 5-4 Davydenko*
Mmmmmm has this game turned around? Nadal wins his service with very few problems and he bounces back to his chair. He's back to the newly-born lamb look again. Been a while hasn't it? Davy might actually have a few things to contemplate in his chair.

Nadal* 1-6 4-4 Davydenko
Nadal edges ahead and gives his followers some hope. He's trying desperately to mix it up with some looping and sliced forehands but Davy is staying strong. Until that is when Nadal forces him back after a gruesome rally and he slips to hand Nadal the advantage. But Davy battles back to deuce. Nadal must be wondering what he has to do to get under the Russian's skin. He's playing like a machine. Crowd levels go upwards as Davy skies one into the (Pat) rafters at the O2. Nadal's fifth break point in the set and he takes it. Bonkers time and Davy sends one long. Nadal gets on his knees and pumps his fist to the floor. Nice. My powerdrill is sweating over this one. (see third game second set commentary). And don't forget Radio Five live sports extra is in full flow - see the link.

FedererSupremeOverlord on 606: "The problem is Rafa keeps hitting short in the middle, if he hit short to the side then he could use the angle, but he is giving himself nothing."

Nadal 1-6 3-4 Davydenko*
Nadal starts his service game strongly and cruises to a 40-0 lead. A great backhand pushed to the corner and the Spaniard pulls one back without dropping a point.

Nadal* 1-6 2-4 Davydenko
As well as a brilliant forehand Davy has got the change of pace down to a fine a fine art. Not to mention picking up the half-volleys. Just quicker at everything. A double fault and Davy goes wobbly like a bowl of jelly. (Who likes raw jelly? I know I do) Two break points and the crowd have woken up again. A cute calm backhand volley from Davy at the net and it's back to deuce. Rafa challenges a ball that was about one foot out. Desperation I fear. Moment gone? Bit unlucky there because his shot hit the tape and flew over to lose the game.

BBC Sport's Caroline Cheese Tweeting from the O2 Arena: "Nadal hanging on, but only just. He's hitting everything so short - inviting Ni-Dav to go on the attack"

Nadal 1-6 2-3 Davydenko*
The crowd seem resigned to watching their man lose this one. Davy's devastating winners roll on and the applause seems more appreciative. He lurks around the net and smashes an easy winner into the empty court to go 30-0 up on Nadal's serve. Rafa's head goes downwards and once again he's facing break points. A fantastic exhausting rally with grunts echoing loudly around the O2 and Nadal is clinging to this game with his finger nails. A big big serve and it's deuce. Nadal looks like a man who's opened his Christmas presents to find his third pencil case after thinking it was a Stars Wars Stormtrooper action man. The bottom lip extends even further after sending another one long and it's the dreaded break of serve.

Nadal* 1-6 2-2 Davydenko
Davy strolls to a 40-0 lead but Nadal hits back with a booming forehand to send Davy slipping like a young duck on ice. Nadal switches it up and moves on to his forehand to receive the serve and it gets Davy on the backfoot. A rare piece of aggression. More needed Rafa. But then hands the initiative back.

"You think Rafa Nadal and Rafa Benitez have switched roles recently? Something is definitely going on!"

Nadal 1-6 2-1 Davydenko*
You see some matches and you are always waiting for that big turnaround. I would put my new shed and rather pathetic powerdrill on this not happening at the O2 tonight. A lot of people screaming "C'mon Rafa". I don't think they can believe his twin brother who's not very good has turned up. Davy grinds him down with a gut-busting rally and Nadal finally puts the ball long. Still no answers. But...hope perhaps? A sweet sweet forehand drops in the corner and gets him back to deuce. More fist-clenching. Cracking shot. And he holds on. Tough but he noses ahead. Should I be dusting down that powerdrill?

BBC Sport's Caroline Cheese Tweeting from the O2 Arena: "Rafa's off the boil - but Ni-Dav playing some sublime tennis. Credit where credit's due"

Nadal* 1-6 1-1 Davydenko
Davy is playing like three men, with eight arms, with the power of a dinosaur, the speed of a cheetah..need I go on? His forehand is a thing of utter beauty.

"Will the real Rafa Nadal please stand up!!"

Nadal 1-6 1-0 Davydenko*
Too many errors Rafa. C'mon boy. Nadal being pushed all over the place but he grits his Spanish white teeth and fights back to 30-30. Still no answers to Davy who is using every inch of the court. Break point. Nadal smashes one back to take it to deuce and it's the first time we've seen any anger from the man. Turning point? Nadal's face suggests a fairly unsettled internal mechanisations. And the fist is clenched again after fighting back to take the game.

FIRST SET:

Nadal* 1-6 Davydenko
It's three quick booms from the baseline and it's three set points. Ace. Easy. Stunning. Davy is sweating and the Russian is playing brilliantly and Nadal is wobbling. He looks short of ideas. He also needs the net set or he'll be out of the tournament.

Nadal 1-5 Davydenko*
Well this is stunning stuff. Just 25 minutes and Davy will now be serving for the set. Nothing too flashy, just solid, he's too quick, too strong, too everything. Is there any hope for the Spaniard?

"Nadal needs to pick things up. Been at every match so far and dont think i can stand watching another one of my players lose. It's beginning to look like a miracle needs to happen for verdasco and Nadal to get through"

Nadal* 1-4 Davydenko
The Nadal grunting has kicked in and it works - 30-30. He's loosened up a bit and is getting to grips with Davy's forehand. Long way to go through. Nadal does amazingly to get a dropshot back but Davy is all over him like a (fill in the gap - bad rash or a stinky lampshade). Davy winding it up and eases to the game.

BBC Sport's Caroline Cheese Tweeting from the O2 Arena: "This crowd is almost unanimously behind Rafa. Ni-Dav doesn't seem to care tho-hitting Rafa off the court"

Nadal 1-3 Davydenko*
That might settle Nadal's nerves. Forehand boom and he races to 40-0. The crowd go bonkers. No guessing for who they're favouring. And it gets noisier with the first game on the board for the Spaniard.

Nadal* 0-3 Davydenko
It's three games on the trot for Davy. Looking easy. As soon as Nadal steps it up, Davy pulls a dash of magic out of his pocket. He wins the game after pushing Nadal to the back, he strolls into the net and volleys to Nadal's left. Dominant. Easy. Great to watch. Unless you're a Nadal fanatic.

Always United on 606: " I've already embarrassed myself today but that won't stop me from making another prediction. Davydenko to win in 2."

Nadal 0-2 Davydenko*
Davy really mixing it up and Nadal looks a little bemused. No answer to Davy's weapons so far. He goes 0-30 down and almost 0-40 but davy's forehand drive just goes the wrong side of the line. Big 'oooh' from the crowd. Close. An ace gets him fired up again but a phenomenal Davy backhand gives Nadal no chance. Brilliant. First break point and he takes it with Nadal plopping the ball into the tape. Davy looking a tower of strength.

Nadal* 0-1 Davydenko
A steady start. Nadal going for a couple of winners but drifting wide. Davydenko doesn't have a lot of hair. I'm not being hairist - it's just an observation. He's serving well though but Nadal looks pumped. A double fault takes it to deuce but Davy takes the game with a Nadal forehand flying narrowly long. A very lively first game. Like it.
* Denotes next to serve.

2058: Here we go then....Nadal to receive. He says he'll fight for everything. The crowd are very very noisy. Wouldn't get this at Wimbledon. Love it. More thoughts in a bit I'm sure from Caroline Cheese who's down there tonight.

2056: Just to let you know, there will be 5 live sports extra commentary on this match after the Hull City v Everton Premier League clash has ended (should be around 2140). Plus, don't forget Murray's tie with Verdasco is live on BBC Two from 1415 on Thursday. I thank you.

"Cheesey gives up capital letters in her live text updates! What can we expect from you?!"
Is this some kind of Christmas sacrifice being requested? Anything you propose? Live text without words? Having to type without my fingers? Giving up nicknames tonight such as Davy? I'm all ears

2052: The London crowd are a little lively but not as lively as Nadal who arrives on the court in his lime green shirt and starts skipping about like a newly-born lamb. Splendid.

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra's David Law Tweeting from the O2 Arena: "Jonathan Overend is now inviting your suggestions for how the round-robin tie-break should be broken if games are level. Thoughts please."

2047: Nadal: "It is a pleasure to play here in London. I need to play my best tonight. I'm not playing my best right now but I will fight for everything." If he loses in straight sets he'll be the first player out of the tournament. Bring it on. The match that is - not his downfall. We all love a bit of Nadal - don't we?

2044: Stat-attack. First up is the head-to-head between Davydenko and Nadal. The Spaniard is 4-3 up. Davydenko won their last encounter in Shanghai at the World Tour Masters 1000 and has won the last three on the hard court. Davy (there we go, I've gone for the shortening already) was born in Severodonezk, Ukraine and is standing at 5'10". Nadal - born in Mallorca and is three inches taller at 6'1". And a reminder of previous games this week. Both lost their openers so it's a crucial crucial game.

2038: It was a fantastic effort from you guys this afternoon. It can get a bit hectic so it's not always easy to reflect the beauty of your comments but I will do my best tonight. Text 81111,606 or Twitter

2035: And we're back. Welcome back. There's no stopping the Super Swede Soderling. Following this afternoon's destruction of the weary looking defending champion Novak Djokovic, it's Rafael Nadal - who Soderling beat on Monday - chomping at the bit at London's O2 tonight. Pressure on for the world number two and he's up against seventh seed Nikolay Davydenko. Both players are hunting their first win this week so whoever loses could be waving goodbye to the season-ending hoo-rah. Can you feel the tension? Hands up who's got sweaty palms. Perhaps it's just me. Or my popcorn.
