And the Argentine pulls off a tremendous result, beating Federer in three sets - only to face an anxious wait at the end of the match as ATP officials work out who has made the semi-finals
While officials calculate who has reached the semis, Premier League footballer Carlos Tevez, the Manchester City and Argentina international, keeps the crowd entertained
And soon news filters through that Del Potro and Federer, despite his defeat on Thursday, will go through to the last four, meaning Andy Murray's ATP World Tour Finals campaign is over

Soderling produces an impressive first set to rock the champion, the Swede winning it on a tie-break then crushing a fatigued Djokovic 6-1 in the second set
Spain's world number two Nadal knows he will go out of the tournament in the group stages if he loses to Russia's Nikolay Davydenko in straight sets
And he gets off to the worst possible start, losing the first three games. The Russian refuses to let Nadal settle and eventually takes the opening set 6-1
At 5-6 down in the second set, Nadal is staring into the abyss, but he breaks Davydenko to set up a tie-break. However, a booming match-point forehand from the Russian sends Nadal crashing out
Tuesday: US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro, fresh from an opening defeat by Andy Murray on Sunday, begins confidently against Fernando Verdasco, taking the first set 6-4
But the Spanish left-hander responds magnificently in the second set, breaking the Argentine in the eighth game and closing out to force the match into a deciding third set
But after racing to a 5-2 lead in the final set, Del Potro loses his concentration as Verdasco forces a match-deciding tie-break - which the world number five seals convincingly 7-1 to keep alive his semi-final hopes
British number one Andy Murray is in action against world number one Roger Federer in the last game of the day. Murray has won six of his nine meetings with his Swiss opponent
The Scot gets off to a shaky start, losing his opening service game, but he hits back to break Federer twice and take a 5-2 lead in the first set
Federer holds serve and then saves three set points in game nine, but Murray, who sends down six aces in the first set, wraps up the opener 6-3
Despite the match being played in London, Switzerland's Federer has plenty of support in the packed O2 Arena and they inspire him to level the match, taking the second set 6-3
Murray's serve, which had been so dominant early on, deserts him in the final set and he is broken three times as Federer wraps up a 3-6 6-3 6-1 victory
Monday: The attention switches to Group B on day two as world number two Rafael Nadal takes on his 2009 French Open conqueror Robin Soderling and the the Spaniard looks stunned after dropping the first set
Nadal looks to be in control of the second set and it seems as though a break of the Soderling serve is a matter of when rather than if for the six-time Grand Slam winner
But Soderling shows fine levels of concentration to hold his nerve, sticking with Nadal until game 10 of the second set - when he breaks for a surprise 6-4 6-4 victory
Defending champion Novak Djokovic begins his title defence in the evening session against Russia's Nikolay Davydenko in what turns out to be a thriller
Andy Roddick turns up in London despite not being fit to take part in the tournament but still looks to be the only one not enjoying the match between Djokovic and Davydenko
Davydenko, the world number seven and 2008 runner-up, gives his Serbian opponent a big scare by taking the first set - but Djokovic bounces back in the second to level the match
Djokovic holds his nerve to clinch the decider for a 3-6 6-4 7-5 win and his 11th straight victory on the ATP World Tour
Sunday: The tournament gets under way with a surprise in the doubles as Polish eighth seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski (pictured) beat defending champions and top seeds Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic
