Nieminen turned professional in 2000 |
Former world number 10 Jarkko Nieminen cruised to an easy first round win at the Caversham ATP Jersey Open. The Finnish player defeated Jan Minar of the Czech Republic 6-1 6-2 to set up a clash with Daniel Evans of England. Evans, who won the Caversham Tournament in Jersey in March, defeated Austria's Martin Fischer 6-3 6-3 on Tuesday. Tournament Director Hugh Raymond told BBC Jersey he was astounded by the quality of Nieminen's game: "You can see why he was a top 10 player." He added: "To think Minar is a top player as well, it was amazing to watch, he's a class apart." The Caversham ATP Jersey Open runs all this week with the finals on Sunday, 15 November.
