I'm a big fan of Novak Djokovic but the pressure seems to have really hit him. He beat Simon Greul to make the third round but he hasn't been enjoying himself. He is also not as popular as other players on the circuit, but he seems to have stretched the rules a little - with the injury time-outs and the bathroom breaks. It's not his fault though - it's something that has gone to absurd levels in the men's and women's game. | 606: DEBATE |
Djokovic has experienced some breathing problems so maybe that's the problem. But he should have finished that game against Andy Roddick in January at the Australian open. (He withdrew during the quarter-finals because of cramping). Maybe he just needs to be a bit more gracious when things aren't going so well - that's something they respect here in Britain. His game has slipped though. Has he been working hard enough? Has he been too busy being a promoter? He's a tremendous athlete and is still really important for the game. Andy Murray has yet to win a Grand Slam and Djokovic has won one. We shouldn't dog him too much. Changing times for Djokovic |
His biggest mistake has been switching his racket (Djokovic changed racket manufacturers ahead of his Australian open defence this year). It might have been a profitable change initially but I just hope it all works out. I would hate to see him not get back to the level he was at - he's still in the cream of the crop. On to Roger Federer who cruised through his second round match in straight sets against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. Federer makes it look so easy. He steps on to Centre Court and it all starts flowing for him. He just seems to be able to reach that extra level when he plays here. But things will get much tougher for Roger. It's a really hard draw. There are the likes Robin Soderling, Ivo Karlovic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga - those will be all really tough matches. And regarding the opening two matches, it's just good to get them out of the way. John McEnroe was talking on BBC Two's Today at Wimbledon
