Cavaday still harbours hope of playing in this year's Wimbledon championship |
Britain's Naomi Cavaday will be hoping for a lucky loser spot after suffering defeat in the last round of Wimbledon qualifying at Roehampton. The British number six, who saved a match point to beat Angelique Kerber on Wednesday, went down 7-5 6-2 against Russia's Vesna Manasieva. "I'm bitterly disappointed, it was a big chance and it hurts," she said. Cavaday was the only Brit to make the final round, but she is now left to see if she will be one of the lucky losers. Cavaday added: "I made the last round of qualifying, which is an achievement in itself but it was a great opportunity. | 606: DEBATE |
"In the match I was setting my self up with chances on her serve and fighting on my serve but overall I just didn't play well enough. "I'm in the doubles with Katie O'Brien next week, which I'm really excited about and I'm going to sign in for the mixed doubles with Josh Goodall and hopefully we'll get in." USA's Taylor Dent and France's Xavier Malisse qualified in the men's event.
