Hutchins and Huss have been playing together for five weeks |
Great Britain's Ross Hutchins enjoyed a superb doubles win at the French Open as he and Australian partner Stephen Huss knocked out the fourth seeds. Hutchins, ranked 87 in doubles, and Huss beat Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles 6-4 6-4 to reach round two. However, Hutchins' Davis Cup doubles partner Jamie Murray went out at the first hurdle. Murray and Belarussian Max Mirnyi lost 3-6 6-3 7-5 to South Africa's Rik de Voest and Ducthman Robin Haase. Hutchins - the son of Paul Hutchins, the current LTA head of men's tennis - said the victory over Bhupathi and Knowles had been among his best. "We are very pleased, ecstatic in fact," he said. "It is probably my best, if not the joint best (result) so far. "We knew it was a difficult match - Mark is the defending champion - but we played aggressively." Hutchins has been playing for five weeks now with Huss, who as a qualifier partnered Wesley Moodie to the doubles title at Wimbledon in 2005. "We have improved a lot and have been playing well recently, especially in the last week," he added. "I would like to speak to Hussey and make this more of a permanent thing."
