Murray suffered several breaks before defeating Karanusic |
Jamie Baker was beaten by Marin Cilic but Andy Murray defeated Roko Karanusic on Sunday as Great Britain beat Croatia 4-1 in their Davis Cup tie. Andy Murray beat Roko Karanusic 6-4 7-6 in the first of the final day's two dead rubbers after brother Jamie withdrew with an elbow injury.
Baker battled valiantly against Cilic before succumbing to a straight sets 6-4 6-4 defeat.
Great Britain's victory means they will play in the World Group in 2008.
Cilic, 19, was at one point ranked the world's top junior player and GB coach John Lloyd was pleased with Baker's performance against him.
Baker managed to break Cilic as the Croatian served for the match.
But it was a short-lived fightback, with Cilic immediately breaking Baker, sealing victory with a backhand drop-volley.
"Cilic - what a prospect he is," said Lloyd. "I think Jamie played well today. We have played some great tennis in this tie."

Murray won the first four games of the first set of his match but Karanusic broke back.
The Scot eventually took the set but suffered an early break in the second before winning the tie break 7-4.
The Great Britain number one had saved another break point at 3-4 down before eventually leading 6-5 and serving for the match.
But Karanusic broke him again after Murray wasted four match points.
Tim Henman, who played the final match of his career on Saturday in a double's victory with Jamie Murray, addressed the crowd at the end of the tie.
"Thanks for your support," he said.
"For the last 14 years of my career it really has been greatly appreciated and I'm going to miss you all in the future."
