Djokovic is through to the second round in Paris

World number six Novak Djokovic believes Andy Murray will learn from the wrist injury that threatens to rule him out of Wimbledon.

Djokovic is currently playing at the French Open, while fellow 20-year-old Murray has been sidelined since 15 May.

"You've got to take care of your body and I think he's learned the lesson now," Djokovic told BBC Sport.

"Obviously he was not taking care of his body and he's got the injury which brought him a lot of negative things."

Djokovic has a 3-0 career record against Murray and looking ahead to future encounters with the Scot he added: "We'll see what happens with him but, as I said, you've got to take care of your body.

"This is an individual sport and every muscle is involved. I hope we have a long career."

Murray suffered tendon damage to his wrist in the first round of the Hamburg Masters earlier this month.

Djokovic has beaten the Scot twice this year, the first a semi-final win in Indian Wells that saw Murray struggling with hip and ankle injuries and the second a 6-0 6-1 victory on his way to winning the Miami Masters.

But the Serbian still believes that Murray is part of a group of young players that can challenge the supremacy of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the future.

"I agree that Murray, [Richard] Gasquet, myself, maybe [Gael] Monfils and [Tomas] Berdych - this group of young players can do damage to the best two players in the world," said Djokovic.

"For sure we're candidates for those places and we've shown our quality in the last year or so."

Djokovic beat Santiago Giraldo of Colombia in straight sets in the first round at Roland Garros and now plays Laurent Recouderc of France.
