Djokovic coped well in the windy conditions |
Serbian teenager Novak Djokovic claimed his third title of the season by overcoming Richard Gasquet in the final of the Estoril Open in Portugal. The 19-year-old third seed beat the French fifth seed 7-6 (9-7) 0-6 6-1 to notch up the fifth ATP Tour title of his career.
Right-hander Djokovic, who turns 20 later this month, won titles in Adelaide and Miami earlier this season.
It is the second time he has beaten the 20-year-old Gasquet on the main tour.
"This was a tough match and a great victory for me," said Djokovic. "The conditions were tough and so was Richard.
"I had to come back in the third set after losing the second, it feels great. I've played several matches this week in windy conditions.
"That helped me and played an important role. I learned something in each match, I was able to hold on today."
Gasquet said: "I was glad to play this final but Novak showed his game today. I didn't play my best game and that's not enough against him."
In the women's final, German Greta Arn beat Victoria Azarenka of Belarus 2-6 6-1 7-6 (7-3) to claim her first title.
