Williams had her toughest test of the tournament so far |
Venus Williams kept up her fine form at the Family Circle Cup by reaching the last four with a 6-4 7-5 quarter-final win over Anabel Medina Garrigues. Her next opponent is Jelena Jankovic, who eased past Katarina Srebotnik 6-2 6-0, while Dinara Safina and Vera Zvonareva meet in the other semi-final.
Medina Garrigues was 3-0 up in the second set but Williams battled back.
"I just felt 'I'm not losing this set' and I said 'Come on V, get on with it'," said the unseeded American.
Williams and Jankovic have not met since the Serb's third round win at Wimbledon last year.
Zvonareva struggled with a sore wrist in her 6-1 7-5 win over unseeded Dutch player Michaella Krajicek, and said she would do everything she could to get back to full fitness.
World number 12 Safina had an easier time in the last match of the day, as opponent Tatiana Golovin of France retired with an ankle injury after losing the first set 6-3.
