James Blake eased into round two of the US Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston on Tuesday with a 6-3 6-0 win over Davide Sanguinetti. Second seed Blake is the highest seed left in the event after Andy Roddick was forced out a hamstring injury.
Elsewhere, defending champion Mardy Fish came from a set down to beat Martin Vassallo Arguello 5-7 6-2 7-5.
Fish now faces another Argentine, Mariano Zabaleta, after his 6-0 7-6 (10-8) win over Ryan Sweeting.
Last year's runner-up, Jurgen Melzer, beat Rainer Schuettler 6-2 3-6 6-1 while seventh seed Robby Ginepri lost 6-3 3-6 6-3 to Vince Spadea.
Lucky loser Alexander Peya, who was given a second chance after Roddick's withdrawal, lost 6-3 6-2 to Spain's Albert Montanes.
