Roddick battled through to beat Verdasco despite the injury |
Top seed Andy Roddick has withdrawn from the US Men's Clay Court Championships after aggravating a hamstring injury in the Davis Cup. The injury originally forced Roddick out of the Miami Masters and he "tweaked it" against Fernando Verdasco.
Roddick went on to win the match against Verdasco but said the injury now needed more time to heal.
"The unfortunate thing with a hamstring injury is that it is one of the most susceptible to re-injure," he said.
"At this point, instead of changing surfaces - you know how natural my movement is on clay in the first place - it would probably be best to make sure I get healthy."
The world number three has been in five of the last six finals at the Houston event, winning it three times.
In Monday's action, sixth seed Benjamin Becker was upset 7-5 7-6 (7-3) by big-serving Croat Ivo Karlovic.
