Hingis is on course for her second title of the season |
Martina Hingis showed glimpses of her best form as she beat home favourite Sania Mirza in two sets to reach the final of the Kolkata (Calcutta) Open. The Swiss former number one broke the 19-year-old Indian in the fourth and sixth games to wrap up the opening set.
Mirza briefly fought back, forcing break point five times in the fourth game of the second set, but Hingis held her nerve to seal a 6-1 6-0 victory.
She will meet either Olga Poutchkova or Iroda Tulyaganova in Sunday's final.
The showpiece will be Hingis' fourth since her return from retirement.
The 25-year-old five-time Grand Slam winner quit the game in 2002 due to foot and ankle injuries but has stormed back to form on the tour this season, including her triumph in the Italian Open in May.
