Acasuso's singles victory win made it 2-0 to Argentina |
Argentina will face Russia in December's Davis Cup final after a 5-0 semi-final win over Australia. Jose Acasuso and David Nalbandian won singles matches before Nalbandian and Agustin Calleri beat Wayne Arthurs and Paul Hanley in the doubles to win it.
Calleri then beat Paul Hanley 6-0 6-3 for 4-0 and the last singles rubber was a walkover.
Argentina's only previous Davis Cup final appearance was in 1981, when they lost 3-1 to the United States.
Nalbandian gave Argentina the perfect start on Friday with a straight sets win over Mark Philippoussis.
In the second rubber, Acasuso was 1-6 6-4 4-6 6-2 4-0 up against former world number Lleyton Hewitt when bad weather halted play.
When the match resumed on Saturday, the Argentine kept his cool to win the last set 6-1.
"I had a little luck with the errors he committed," Acasuso said of the final set.
"The important thing was to give Argentina this victory and takes some pressure off the rest of the team."
Nalbandian and Calleri beat Arthurs and Hanley 6-4 6-4 7-5 to secure the victory before Calleri wasted little time disposing of Hanley.
