Lundgren coached world number one Roger Federer for five years

Lundgren is working with GB for their Euro-Africa relegation play-off against Ukraine, but Lloyd hopes to strike a long-term deal with the Swede.

Lloyd told BBC Sport: "I'd like to get Peter on board. I've known him for many years and really like working with him.

"He's worked with Roger Federer and Marat Safin and, in my opinion, is one of the top five coaches in the world."

Lloyd added: "One of Peter's first jobs was working with the Swiss tennis federation, so he knows the ins and outs of the Davis Cup very well."

Lundgren worked with the GB team during a training camp in Vienna, Austria, last week before they set off for Ukraine for this weekend's crunch tie.

Lloyd says he envisages the Swede, who is under contract to coach Safin until the end of September, becoming Britain's permanent Davis Cup coach.

"I didn't go after him for just two weeks," Lloyd said. "I've got a two-and-a-half year deal and I want someone for that long as well.

"Our first job is to win the match. If it's a good experience, we'll go after him.

"My contract is to work with the team for 12 weeks a year, and Peter would need at least 12 weeks as well, to bond with the players and go to tournaments."

Lloyd admits there will be some "big hitters" involved with Britain for the tie in Odessa, which starts on Friday.

As well as Lundgren, Andy Murray's coach Brad Gilbert, who has previously worked with Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick, will also be present to help his charges.

Jamie Baker, Jamie Delgado and Alan Mackin took part in the training camp in Vienna last week.

Andy Murray and Greg Rusedski joined up with them at Vienna airport on Sunday before travelling onto Odessa.
