Australian Open runner-up Marcos Baghdatis was beaten 7-6 6-3 by Romanian wildcard Andrei Pavel in the Halle International on Monday. The 21-year-old Cypriot has never won a match on grass, having also lost in the opening round at Wimbledon on his debut last year. The fourth seed lost the tight first set 7-5 in the tiebreak before floundering in the second. Wimbledon champion Roger Federer is the top seed at the tournament.
