Austrian preparations for the Fed Cup semi-final with Russia were rocked by news that Barbara Schett has torn two ligaments in her right ankle. The former world number seven, who recently announced plans to retire after the 2005 Australian Open, sustained the injury during training.
She helped the Austrians trounce USA 4-1 in their quarter-final, winning both her singles and doubles matches.
Austria play Russia in Moscow in the semi-finals beginning on 24 November.
