Agassi powers through in Madrid
Andre Agassi
Second seed Andre Agassi wasted little time beating American countryman Vince Spadea 6-1 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Madrid Masters.

Agassi, 34, took just 58 minutes to dispose of the world number 23 and will now play Tommy Robredo.

The Spanish eighth seed beat compatriot Fernando Verdasco 2-6 6-4 6-3.

Agassi, an eight-time Grand Slam champion, said: "Robredo's a good mover with a big forehand. He knows how to play the game smart."

The veteran Las Vegan added: "Vince was flat, he was missing more than normal. That always helps. A lot of things fell right for me today."

In other action, Luis Horna continued his good run of form at the Madrid Masters, beating ninth seed Andrei Pavel in straight sets.

The world number 41 from Peru, who put out sixth seed Juan Carlos Ferrero on Wednesday, beat Romanian Pavel 7-5 6-4.

Meanwhile, big-serving Taylor Dent of America beat Tommy Haas of Germany 7-6 (7/3) 6-2. Seventh seed Joachim Johansson also won through, defeating Frenchman Anthony Dupuis 6-1 7-6 (8/6).

However the tournament has lost top seed Tim Henman who earlier lost to Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic.

But fourth seed David Nalbandian cruised through a potentially tricky encounter with Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan, advancing 6-3 6-1.
