Corretja into Madrid second round
Alex Corretja
Spanish veteran Alex Corretja moved into the second round of the Madrid Masters with a straight-sets win over his compatriot David Ferrer.

Wildcard Corretja won 7-5 6-1 and will now play 16th seed Paradorn Srichaphan.

Luis Horna earned a second-round clash with second seed Juan Carlos Ferrero after a 6-4 7-5 win over Hicham Arazi.

Robin Soderling faces David Nalbandian after beating Florian Mayer 6-3 7-6 while Robby Ginepri of the US beat Spain's Tati Rascon 6-1 6-4.

In Monday's late games, France's Anthony Dupuis beat Argentine Agustin Calleri 6-4 6-4, Albert Costa of Spain outlasted Georgia's Irakli Labadze 6-2 5-7 7-5 and American Mardy Fish came from behind to beat Mario Ancic of Croatia 0-6 6-4 6-4.

Withdrawals by Roger Federer, Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt mean Tim Henman is the top seed, followed by Ferrero and Andre Agassi.

The 16 seeds have byes in the opening round and will not be in action until Wednesday.

And the winner will collect 100 points in the Champions Race.
