Federer has already secured qualification for the Masters Cup |
Roger Federer will not compete in the Madrid Masters, which starts on Monday, because of fatigue. The world number one joins Andy Roddick, ranked second, Lleyton Hewitt, ranked third, and Carlos Moya, ranked fourth, in missing the event.
Tim Henman is now the top seed ahead of Andre Agassi and Juan Carlos Ferrero.
"(Federer) told me he was neither mentally nor physically prepared to play," said tournament director Manolo Santana. "We're disappointed."
Xavier Malisse, Albert Costa and Tommy Haas are among those invited to replace the absentees. Guillermo Coria, Gustavo Kuerten, Fabrice Santoro and Sebastien Grosjean had already withdrawn from the event.
