Lawn Tennis Association performance director David Felgate says Tim Henman can win a Grand Slam despite his latest semi-final heartbreak at the US Open. Henman lost the sixth Grand Slam semi-final of his career when he was beaten 6-3 6-4 6-4 by Roger Federer, but Felgate says his day could still come.
"Tim is one of the top five players in the world and has had a great year," he told Radio Five Live's Sportsweek.
"There is no reason why if he stays healthy he can't go on to win one."
Felgate is Henman's former coach and was quick to refute allegations of him being a "nearly man" who lacked the quality to win major tournaments.
"Tim is not a failure - he has been in the top 10 for five or six years and I think he takes an awfully hard time," he said.
"People say he's a failure and he hasn't achieved this or that but I think he has achieved great things in his sport and in his career."
Felgate also said there was nothing to be ashamed of losing to a player like current world number one Federer.
"He came second because Federer is pure class, a player who is possibly going to go on to become one of the greatest players ever."
