Second set

Henman forces Hrbaty to skip the ball out of the court to hold onto the first point. The pressure tells on Hrbaty as he dispute a line call at 30-0. The Briton stretches to cover at the net to move to double set point - but he surrenders both. The Slovak slices Henman's serve out and then loops a shot high and wide to hand Henman a two-set lead.

Henman uses his trademark sharp hands at the net to move to 15-30 but Hrabty levels with a smash. The fifth seed dips the ball low over the net to grab a break point. But he glides the ball into the net for deuce and betters the Slovak on the attack to take advantage. And he whips a forehand down to steal a break.

Henman is again put under pressure on his serve as he slides to 0-30. Hrabty fires his service return out of court at 15-30 but has his first break chance of the match at 15-40. The Briton saves one set point with a solid serve and Hrbaty nets the ball after a frantic rally from the baseline. The Slovak moves to advantage but Henman responds with an ace. The fifth seed scores a point at the net and Hrabty fires long. Henman's resolve is impressive as he saves three set points.

Hrbaty puts Henman in trouble at 0-30 with a whipping cross-court forehand. The fifth seed conjures two aces to level the scores. He then sends Hrbaty the wrong way with a 40-30 before holding with his third ace of the game.

Some spectators begin to arrive at the Grandstand court as the first shout of "Come on Tim" is heard. Henman scrambles round the court and defies Hrbaty with a lob at 15-15. The Slovak is putting the Briton under more pressure but Henman launches a big forehand to hold.

Hrbaty is again put under pressure by Henman at the start of the second set and he moves to 30-40 as the Slovak shoots the ball wildly out of play. Henman surrenders deuce as he scoots the ball into the net. The fifth seed delivers a beautiful shot down the line to take advantage but a good passing shot from Hrbaty sees the break chance go past. The Briton misses four chances to break and the Slovak will take confidence as he holds.

First set

The British fifth seed eases to 30-0 with some relaxed play and drives into the net to race to three set points. This time the Slovak comes into the net and wins a point back with an overhead. But Henman competently cruises to the opening set.

Henman grabs an overhead smash at the net at 40-30 but he cannot prevent the 22nd seed winning his first game of the match.

Henman shows a variety of groundstrokes in a longer rally but that suits Hrbaty, who moves to 15-30. The 22nd seed nets the ball at 30-30 and Henman closes out the game with a good first serve.

Henman is using a lot of spin and striking the ball's low which is baffling Hrabty. A deft forehand down the line from the fifth seed takes him to 30-40 and the Slovak nets the ball to move further ahead.

Henman 3-0 Hrbaty
The only sound around the court is that of aeroplanes flying overhead after such lengthy rain delays the crowds have gone home. Despite the eerie atmosphere Henman stays in control to comfortably hold and race to a 3-0 lead.

Henman makes some good solid returns to move to 15-30 but the Slovakian's serve is well-timed and he levels up the scores. An unforced error lets Henman in at 30-40 and he is able to take an early break.

Henman opens the match and gets off to a good start with an ace but a long rally ends Hrabty's way at 15-15. A swinging backhand down the line takes the Briton to 40-15 and he holds.

Henman is out on Grandstand court warming up with Hrbaty but the Briton's match has not attracted a crowd as most of the seats appear to be empty.
