America's Andy Roddick underlined his status as favourite by brushing aside Guillermo Canas 6-3 6-3 in the fourth round of the Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami.

Number two seed Roddick needed just over an hour to carve out victory with the help of 12 aces.

Roddick will face Carlos Moya in the quarter-finals after he completed a 6-3 6-2 win over Tommy Robredo.

Rafael Nadal, 17-year-old conqueror of top seed Roger Federer, fell to Fernando Gonzalez 7-6 4-6 6-2.

Third seed Guillermo Coria battled past French qualifier Julien Benneteau 7-6 2-6 7-5.

The Argentine rallied from the brink of elimination after falling 5-2 down in the third set.

Benneteau beat Mardy Fish in the first round, but was denied another victory as Coria won the final five games.

Coria will face Nicolas Kiefer of Germany, after he knocked out 12th seed Sebastien Grosjean of France 6-4 6-2.

Romania's Andrei Pavel edged through against America's Todd Martin 7-6 7-6 in the battle of the unseeded players.
