Andre Agassi is on course for a seventh Nasdaq-100 Open title after blasting away Max Mirnyi 6-2 6-2. The defending champion took just 53 minutes to despatch the Belarus and book a quarter-final date with 21st seed Agustin Calleri from Argentina.
Agassi looked in awesome form as he hit 25 winners, and made only five unforced errors.
He finished the match in style with an ace after Mirnyi had taken the last game to deuce.
A modest Agassi said after his demolition of Mirnyi: "I was pretty fortunate with the way it went today.
"Days like this are few and far between so I definitely feel great about the performance.
"But I'm experienced enough to know how quickly things can turn around." Fellow American Andy Roddick, seeded second, battled to a 6-4 3-6 6-3 win over Jonas Bjorkman and goes on to face Guillermo Canas.
The result was a boost for the USA Davis Cup team ahead of their tie against Sweden at Delray Beach next week, although Roddick played down its significance.
"Obviously you can't help but think forward but winning tonight really doesn't do anything to help our chances in the Davis Cup," said Roddick.

Tommy Robredo of Spain had to dig deep before claiming his place in the fourth round of the Nasdaq-100 Open after a nail-biting match. A shock appeared to be on the cards as the 19th seed lost the opening set 3-6 to Jan Hernych of the Czech Republic.
Robredo took the next, then survived a tense tie-break to complete a 3-6 6-3 7-6 win.
American Vince Spadea shrugged off his failure to make the US Davis Cup team and edged Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic 6-3 2-6 7-6 (3).
Spadea will play Thailand's ninth-seeded Paradorn Srichaphan, who beat Argentina's Juan Monaco 1-6 6-4 6-4.
But there was better news for Monaco's compatriot Canas, as the Argentine overcame Belgium's Xavier Malisse 6-4 2-6 6-3.
