Alex Bogdanovic is among those hoping to win a wildcard |
British players will do battle for Wimbledon wildcards at Raynes Park on Thursday.
The All-British Wildcard Play-off is the brainchild of new LTA performance director David Felgate, who wants British players to work harder for a place in the Wimbledon draw.
Under the new wildcard distribution system, four berths in the first round at Wimbledon will be given to the "most deserving" players.
Two more will be decided via an eight-man play-off featuring the next six highest-ranking players, the best junior and one other player to be decided by the All England Club.
The remaining two, which can be given to non-British players, will be awarded at the discretion of the All England Club's championship committee.
British number six Richard Bloomfield, who has a world ranking of 424, leads the men's field of eight players which includes national champion Alex Bogdanovic and former champions Lee Childs and Jamie Delgado.
Only four players will contest the women's play-off, so just one wildcard is up for grabs.
The winner and runner-up of the men's event will earn places in the Wimbledon draw and an opportunity to collect at least 8,630 as first round losers.
The winner of the women's event will go into the draw and will be guaranteed at least 6,900 as a first-round loser.
All the remaining wildcards will be announced next Tuesday.
