Tournament officials said that the American had cited a change of schedule as the reason for her withdrawal. "Venus Williams' agent informed us that she has had to change her schedule and unfortunately Dubai was dropped," said a spokesman for the event. Williams has been in Europe this week, competing in the Proximus Diamond Games in Antwerp. Top seed for the US$1m Dubai event is the Belgian Justine Henin-Hardenne. Jennifer Capriati, Monica Seles and defending champion Amelie Mauresmo will also be competing in the tournament at the Dubai Tennis Stadium. |
