Bannan has been a regular with Scotland Under-21s
Scotland manager Craig Levein will hand a call-up to Aston Villa's Barry Bannan for the friendly match against the Faroe Islands on 16 November. Levein was cautious about naming potential call-ups but hinted he may experiment with the squad. "I don't want to sit here and name the squad," said Levein. "Because we'll be doing that in the next week. "But I will be adding and the plan is to bring the young lad Barry Bannan in to the group." Levein admitted he was keen to build upon the positive performance against world and European champions Spain last month at Hampden, which Scotland ultimately lost 3-2. However, he is conscious of the extensive schedule Scotland's top players face with their clubs in domestic competition and is keen to utilise fringe players for the forthcoming friendly. One such player is midfielder Bannan, who has impressed recently with Gerard Houlier's Aston Villa and features regularly in Billy Stark's Scotland Under-21 squad. "One or two of the more experienced guys won't be in, because I feel they've had a lot of games recently," said Levein. "Barry has impressed me in the under-21s and he's now appearing for Aston Villa. "So that's an indication that I want to look further afield - not just with the group that I've got but for the future. "So there will be one or two of the new lads in there as well."
