Larsson has no regrets over his time at Celtic

Celtic, then managed by Larsson's former Feynoord coach, Wim Jansen, brought the Swede to Glasgow in 1997.

"The only club to show interest in me was Celtic," Larsson told BBC Scotland.

"Wim Jansen knew what he had in me as a player and I just wanted to enjoy my football again. I had to give it a shot and I don't regret it."

In an hour-long interview with former Celtic midfielder Murdo McLeod and former Rangers forward Gordon Smith, Larsson also spoke about his son's disappointment when he scored the winning goal against Bulgaria at Euro 2004, because it meant his dad wouldn't be coming home early.

Larsson spent seven years with Celtic, going on to become a club legend, scoring 242 goals in the process to sit third in the club's all-time record goalscoring list.

"I didn't have a clue how big a club Celtic were when I joined," Larsson added.

"I think that was a good thing to be honest."

Larsson says he did not relish his first Old Firm derby, a 1-0 defeat at Ibrox, but that not even the Barcelona v Real Madrid clashes he took part in for the Catalan club matched it.

"I didn't enjoy my first one [Old Firm derby]. It's an intimidating atmosphere," he said.

"I enjoyed many after that and nothing compares to the Old Firm derby, it doesn't matter what people say.

"The atmosphere at the Nou Camp against Real Madrid is good but the noise level when you play at Celtic Park and Ibrox is second to none."

Larsson enjoyed a 10 week stint at Old Trafford

Larsson has recently returned to Helsingborgs in his native Sweden following a 10-week loan spell with Manchester United - a move which took him by surprise.

"Our manager at Helsingborgs, Stuart Baxter, wanted to see me after a game," he added.

"He said that there was interest from Manchester United and I was very flattered as it's one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"I didn't believe him at first but he said it was true.

"I didn't know whether to make the move at first as I had moved back home but when I found out it was true, I realised I coudn't turn it down as I was 35 and wouldn't get this chance again.

"I'm pleased that I did."
