Colin McRae makes his rally comeback this weekend |
Scotland's Colin McRae is ready to roll back the years as he makes his comeback in the World Rally Championship. The former world champion will replace Sebastian Loeb in a Citroen Xsara in this week's Rally of Turkey while the Frenchman recovers from a broken arm.
The 38-year-old McRae, speaking after a test run in England on Wednesday, said: "I felt very at ease and comfortable.
"It might sound surprising, but the 2006 version doesn't seem very different to the one I drove in 2003."
The 1995 champion won 25 rallies, just three behind Loeb, before quitting the series, although he returned to action for Skoda Fabia for two races last season.
During his sabbatical, McRae competed in the Le Mans 24-Hour endurance race and desert rallies.
Despite his recent lack of action, Loeb believes his former team-mate is the right man for the job.
"Of the drivers available and who want to race he was the one with the most successess, the best speed," he said.
"He hasn't raced for a while, he's lost contact with the championship, but he's without any doubt the best choice at the moment."
