Sons want Obidele
Stephen Whalen made a name for himself at Morton
Stephen Whalen could be heading for Ayr
Dumbarton are hoping to put a package together to keep Nigerian striker Emeka Obidele at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium.

Obidele scored one goal and made another on New Year's Day in the Scottish Second Division victory over Airdrie United.

And, with Kevin McCann being the latest player to be told he can leave the Sons, manager Dave Winnie wants the former youth international to spearhead his rebuilding.

Obidele has had trial stints at Ayr United, Airdrie and Cowdenbeath so far.

But Winnie said: "We'll be trying to put a package together to keep him at Dumbarton.

"We'll have to wait and see what happens."

Former Partick Thistle defender McCann has been told that he does not feature in Winnie's plans and joins Mark Crilly on the transfer list.

Midfielder Stevie Jack has been released by the Sons, while striker Gary McCutcheon has completed his move to Dumbarton from Kilmarnock.

Other transfer window news:

  • Third Division East Stirlingshire have signed former Stirling Albion defender Pat Clark, Scott Allison from Kirkintilloch Rob Roy and Mark Lukovich from Scottish Premier League side Livingston.

  • Livingston's former Morton striker, Stephen Whelan, is training with Ayr with a view to loan deal.

  • Former Falkirk forward Stephen Craig is on trial at SPL club Motherwell.
