Euro 2008 bid on track
Scotland v Denmark
Scotland hope to co-host the Euro 2008 Championship
Scotland and Ireland Euro 2008 director John Henderson remains confident that the bid to be awarded the European Championship is on track to succeed.

Henderson and his colleagues fly to Geneva in the next few days to prepare for Uefa's decision on which bid is successful on 12 December.

The joint partnership faces strong competition from Austria and Switzerland, Greece and Turkey, Russia, Hungary, Croatia and Bosnia and a four-way Nordic bid.

But just days before the winning bid is announced the bid team have expressed their optimism that they will be successful.

Henderson said: "We have never been overconfident but there's no doubt we are up there with the Nordic bid.

"We have the top stadiums that can provide more than adequate facilities for this event and we have fans who are unrivalled throughout the world.

"We are aware that we have tough competition, but I think we will win and I am confident that we have a very good bid.

"Four of our proposed main stadia are in place which none of our competition has, and I feel that Uefa have been impressed with our bid."

Scotland's minister of sport Mike Watson also gave the bid his full backing and he claims that they could not have done anything more to persuade Uefa.

He said: "We are in the final straight and we won't be slacking until we reach that finishing line. We do believe that we couldn't have done anything better."
