Rubio set for Livi exit

Livingston are resigned to losing defender Oscar Rubio after the Spaniard rejected a new contract.

But they remain hopeful that former Hearts midfielder Lee Makel will agree a new deal and insist that star striker David Fernandez is not yet going anywhere.

Rubio's deal expires during the summer, but it appears that he will quit rather than stay for a crack at the Uefa Cup with Livingston next season.

Manager Jim Leishman said: "We're still speaking to him. His agent comes in this week.

"We rate him highly, but we don't think he is going to stay. I think he has set his heart on a move."

Leishman is attempting to improve his squad after letting several first-team players leave last week.

The West Lothian club have been linked with a move for Kilmarnock striker Tommy Johnson and former Aberdeen defender Derek Whyte.

Leishman hopes that Makel will confirm his inclusion in the next campaign by putting pen to paper on Tuesday.

Negotiations are also continuing with Spanish forward Quino.

Leishman stressed that, despite reports that Fernandez is wanted by Celtic, no approach had been made by the Scottish champions to himself or his assistant.

"There's nothing in that," he said. "Nobody has spoken to me and I know nobody has spoken to David Hay, who is on holiday.

"Until Celtic make an offer then there's not a lot we can do. Every player has a price and we would listen.

"We would have to sell if the right offer comes in, but everybody knows what a good player he is and I would be disappointed to see him go."
