Ospreys' Ireland wing Tommy Bowe has been voted player of the year by the Welsh Rugby Players Association.

Bowe, the Six Nations player of the year, beat Newport Gwent Dragons wing Aled Brew and Cardiff Blues duo Bradley Davies and Xavier Rush to the award.

Bowe's British and Irish Lions and Ospreys colleague Shane Williams won the try of the year prize for his Six Nations stunner against Scotland.

The Dragons won team of the year while fly-half Jason Tovey won young player.

Dragons number 10 Tovey beat Wales and Blues lock Davies and Scarlets hooker Ken Owens to the young player gong in a ceremony in Cardiff.

Irish player of the year Bowe scored 14 tries in his 22 appearances for the Ospreys this season and helped inspire the Welsh region to the Heineken Cup quarter-finals and into a Magners League grand final showdown with European champions Leinster.

Welsh Rugby Players Association members - professional players at Wales' four regions of the Dragons, Blues, Ospreys and Scarlets - voted for the individual player awards.

While a panel of experts from BBC Wales' Scrum V show made up of presenter Gareth Lewis, commentator Gareth Charles and pundit and former Welsh international Jonathan Davies nominated the try and team of the year winners.

Wing Williams' dramatic last-gasp winner over Scotland in their 31-24 Six Nations win at the Millennium Stadium won the best score gong.

While the improving Dragons, who enjoyed their best season for five years, were the winners of the team award.
